Art and history: Anna Maria Brandstätter on the banks of the Donau in St. Nikola

st. Nikola. Anna Maria Brandstätter unfolds her artistic talent in an impressive, almost 900 -year -old building directly on the Danube. Her studio offers a breathtaking view of the mighty river and the surrounding green landscape that is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the artist.

Anna Maria, who grew up in Dimbach, has settled in this historic house with the address St. Nikola 1 since 2012. St. Nicholas adorns the facade of the building, which was first mentioned in 1142. "I'm not sure if the house found me or I the house," she says with a smile. The old walls, which once served as a hospital, blacksmith and municipal office, promote their creativity. "The calm here is inspiring for my work. I couldn't live in a city," says the talented artist.

artistic presence

The villagers often do not know that she is a prominent -sounding artist whose works were exhibited in many renowned museums and galleries from Vienna to Tyrol. In 2018, Brandstätter was awarded the coveted Heinrich Gleißner funding award. She has currently established herself in the art scene: her works can still be seen as part of the award of Erich Grabner Prize until November 17th in the Krems Museum. In addition, she takes part in the community exhibition "Act Three", which is waiting for visitors in Bratislava until October 23rd.

Brandstätter's technology is special and takes them off from other artists. Each of her works of art is based on organic forms that she finds in nature, surrounded by her mysterious garden.

inspiration from a distance

"The intensive shades of blue of the sky and the sea are deeply anchored in me and flow into my work," she reveals. A stay in Geneva was also important for them to open up new perspectives and enrich their designs.

Despite these trips, Anna Maria always returns to her home streak on the Danube with joy. The Danube flows in this special area of the Strudergau and comes to the closest and deepest place at its place of residence, which creates a powerful atmosphere.
