Freistadt: award for healthy school kitchen and expansion of childcare

Freistadt. In Freistadt, emphasis is placed on healthy eating, especially in the school kitchen, which was recently awarded by the state of Upper Austria. In addition, the care for children is expanded during the holiday season.

Mayor Christian Gratzl was enthusiastic about the award "Healthy Kitchen", which the committed kitchen team received from the governor of Christine Haberlander. "I thank our school cooks, who ensure that our children are healthy, regional and tasty," said Gratzl. He emphasizes that a balanced diet not only delights the palate, but also increases the concentration and performance of the children. "We want to give our youngest healthy eating behavior on the way," added the mayor.

Advanced holiday care for children

In order to address the need for care during the summer holidays, the municipality of Freistadt has been offering game summer for years. This offer is continuously expanded. It is particularly noteworthy that care will also be offered for the first time this year in the autumn, semester and Easter holidays. Over ten parents have already registered for the semester break, which gave the impetus for the extended offer. The children are looked after by the experienced team of the Upper Austria relief organization, which can already show a lot of positive experiences in childcare.

New childcare center in planning

Another essential step to improve childcare was also decided: The local council unanimously decided that the Upper Austria will act as a carrier for a new childcare center on Zemannstrasse. This center should offer space for three kindergarten and two crawling groups. It is planned that it will be opened in 2026 and are available on around 2,900 square meters both interior and exterior play areas that will offer space for up to 89 children. This sets another important signal to promote early education in the region.
