Alarming unemployment figures in Linz-Land: A look at the situation

Linz-Land. The situation on the job market in the district is becoming increasingly critical. A worrying trend is clearly evident: Unemployment has increased considerably compared to last year, while at the same time the number of open spots continues to decrease.

According to the current statistics, 70,622 people were employed in the end of October, which is only a minimal increase of 49 employees compared to the previous year. On the other hand, 3,480 people are affected by unemployment, which corresponds to an alarming increase of 14.36 percent. As a result, the unemployment rate is now 4.7 percent, an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous year.

decline in the vacancies

A particularly critical aspect is the decline in the vacancies. There are currently only 2,291 available positions, which represents a decline of 559 positions compared to the previous year. This development particularly affects the apprenticeships: currently only 219 open apprenticeships are waiting for applicants, which is 63 less than in the previous year.

At the same time, the number of apprenticeship seekers has increased to a new high. A total of 273 young people are looking for an apprenticeship, which corresponds to an increase of 162 people compared to the previous year. This discrepancy between the falling number of available positions and the increasing number of job seekers, especially among young people, raises serious questions about the future career perspective.

"We are faced with a big task. It is urgently needed to ensure the training positions," said Michaela Billinger, the spokeswoman for the AMS Traun. These statements illustrate the urgency with which the situation must be addressed to offer young people in the region a perspective.

The present developments illustrate the continuing difficulties with which both companies and job seekers are faced. While employers are suing the labor market about slowed down demand, more and more young people remain without a realistic view of a training position.
