Refurbishment of the flower and garden road in Kirchdorf: compromise necessary!

The municipality of Kirchdorf is faced with a challenging situation: the flower and garden road are in a questionable condition and urgently need to be renovated. Despite the obvious shortcomings, such as numerous potholes and cracks, the complete upgrading remains an expensive undertaking that presents the municipal councils with a difficult decision.

The flower road extends over 425 meters, while Gartenstraße is 250 meters long. The condition of these streets is anything but ideal, which is not least due to the fact that the flower road has existed for about 60 years. The first steps for renovation were taken in May of this year by performing a building grunder. This showed that the current technical standards are no longer fulfilled - especially in the case of the street substructure, which urgently needs to be revised.

Current difficulties and proposed solutions

The engineer Franz Spagl explained to the municipal councils that the existing frost protection layer was inadequate to meet the current requirements. This could have serious consequences, because according to Spagl, a complete renovation would amount to around 1.5 million euros or more - amounts that the municipality simply cannot do. In view of the financial burden, the opinion of Mayor Uwe Gerlsbeck is clearly: "We can afford that."

A possible solution could offer partial expansion. One would concentrate on the essential aspects such as the load -bearing capacity without renewing all layers according to the latest technical requirements. The cost of this option amounts to around 773,000 euros, which is a significant saving. However, this solution will probably not be visually different from the current situation.

In another discussion, the municipal council Martin Heyne (Green) expressed concerns about the financing: "How much money is then planned from the budget?" Unfortunately, Managing Director Florian Haider had to confirm that the financial burden was significant and that borrowing inevitably seems inevitable. The situation is not easier for Gerlsbeck because state support is not sufficient and the requirements for the municipalities are constantly increasing. "There are always new tasks. Where should that lead?" Asked Gerlsbeck.

Despite all the challenges, the municipal councils agree that a renovation cannot be postponed. Elisabeth Hörand (CSU/FW) underlined the importance of the streets for access to important facilities such as kindergarten and school. The comprehensive tender for the construction work is expected for spring or summer 2025 to finally meet the need to repair the streets.

The situation in Kirchdorf shows how important the infrastructure is for the community and which problems can result from neglect for years. For further details on this topic, See the current reporting on www.merkur.de .
