Kirchdorf an amper: municipality relies on flood protection after flood disaster

After the devastating flood in June, the municipality of Kirchdorf an der Amper reacted quickly and launched a working group to develop preventive measures for flood protection. The progress of this working group has now been presented in a special meeting of the local council. Among the participants were not only political decision -makers, but also committed citizens who wanted to work together on solutions.

The flood, which was badly affected by the Ampertal last June, put many districts under water, including Kirchdorf. The population showed great commitment by mobilizing itself for sandbag filling, while the level values got worrying. Instead of falling in shock, around 20 committed Kirchdorfer founded a working group to develop and implement concrete protective measures. Andreas Schmitz, a member of the municipal council and driver of this initiative, emphasized that self -protection is in the top priority of both the municipality and the citizens.

joint efforts and solutions

When the results were presented, Schmitz emphasized that in such a merger, experiences from the different districts were exchanged: "Everyone heard from the other what was going on in their district and what was done - and so we learned from each other." This collaboration is now intended to take a high degree of preventive measures. These include the purchase of a sandbag filling system with conveyor belt, the storage of around 25,000 sandbags and a power unit for the building yard in order to remain functional even in an emergency.

Another central concern is to improve communication within the fire brigade, which had difficulties during the flood. The introduction of modern communication means such as Starlink satellite phones should remedy this.

The working group has created a detailed problem list on over 20 pages, including proposed solutions, which also deals with critical points in the community, as the Sternstrasse. Long -term destinations include installing a fixed throttle structure with a retention basin that is to be created similar to in the Hirschbach area.

Set priorities and recognize the need for action

The discussion about priorities in implementing the measures was more intense than expected. The list of measures required is particularly long for Helfenbrunn, which regularly suffers from floods. Andreas Schmitz made it clear that mobile protective walls were the best solution, but was not financially portable. Therefore, the possibility is discussed to construct the protective walls from pallets, fleece and siloplanes themselves. Also in Schnotting there are urgently needed dike renovations to minimize the risks.

In the presentation of the results, the councils were quickly able to respond to the need for a sandbag filling system and the procurement of further transport systems in order to make flood protection more efficient. Nevertheless, new premises are required for the storage of these devices, but the implementation of which is not to be expected before 2026. The funding of these measures will be discussed in the upcoming budget consultations. After all, everyone agrees that this topic must not be forgotten; Regular reports on the progress of the security measures are considered.

Efficiency and speed on the next flood crisis are of central importance and the community has already set the course for future protective measures. Further details on these developments are in a detailed report at www.merkur.de to read.
