SPÖ-Ober Austria: Who will be the party's rescuer before the 2027 election?

The search for the new chairman of the SPÖ Upper Austria goes into the final phase after the former state chairman Michael Lindner surprisingly announced his retreat from politics for private reasons in November of the previous year. Alois Stöger, who replaced Lindner as the managing SPÖ chief, is now faced with the challenge of finding a successor who can lead the party until the state election in 2027 and leads out of the doldrums of recent years. Despite intensive efforts, the search is as complex, and interest within the state party remains limited, as the Kleine Zeitung reports.

While Lindner remains in office as a state council, although he would have liked to give up, Stöger has had numerous talks to find a suitable candidate. The focus is on finding someone with an affinity for the economy and industry. A potential candidate is Winkler who has toured the country in recent weeks to imagine the comrades.

So far, however, there is no official announcement on Winkler's candidacy. The SPÖ Freistadt recently published a message about him, in which he is described as "Men der Min and Mann from the economy with clear goals". At a meeting with officials, Winkler gave several priorities, including sustainable energy, residential construction and nursing support points, and asked to make investments in these areas. According to Winkler itself, however, there is still no official statement on his possible application.

Winkler, who was chairman of the socialist youth from 1990 to 1992 and co-founded the crowdfunding platform respect.net in 2010, could bring a breath of fresh air with his ideas and suggestions. The challenges that the SPÖ Upper Austria is facing requires clear strategies and concepts to regain the trust of voters. You can find more information here.
