Bad Zell: Volunteering connects generations in the Red Cross

On December 5th, the world day of voluntariness is celebrated, an occasion to highlight the commitment of volunteers. In Bad Zell, Fritz Putschögl, an 86-year-old, is an outstanding example of volunteering. "When I can put on my red jacket, I am happy," he describes his enthusiasm for working on the Red Cross.

Putschögl, who was employed before his retirement at Voest, found his way to the Red Cross at the age of 60. Since then he has been passionate about the emergency services. During this time he completed 1,544 missions to help people. He is also involved in the goods collection campaigns that are organized for the Red Cross market.

Putschögl is particularly pleased that his granddaughter Julia and his great -grandchildren are also involved in the youth red cross. "Our heart beats for the same thing," he says, emphasizing the importance of coexistence in the family. They share their experiences from the Red Cross and learn from each other, which strengthens the family band. "This connects and makes sense," says Fritz about mutual enrichment.

Six out of ten citizens are volunteering in Upper Austria. In particular, 23,900 people are active at the Red Cross, with around 1,200 work in the Freistadt region. These committed citizens enable numerous services that could otherwise not be realized, whether in the emergency services, in youth work or in the support of people in need.

Putchögl also emphasizes the invaluable value of voluntary work, not only for the community, but also for the personal development of the volunteers. Your variety of experiences and connection within the missions strengthen the community and promote the feeling of togetherness of the participants.
