Cybercrime training center opened in Klagenfurt-police in digital fight!
Klagenfurt, Österreich - On May 27, 2025, the new cybercrime training center (CCTC) of the Carinthia State Police Directorate was opened in Klagenfurt. The event was visited by high -ranking representatives of the Interior Ministry, including Interior Minister Gerhard Karner and State Police Director Michaela Kohlweiß. The CCTC represents a specialized facility that is focused on the training and further training of police officers in combating internet crime. With an area of 165 m², the center offers modern training rooms, a hardware showroom and a scenario room for digital crime scene training.
The flood of cybercrime in Austria has risen sharply in recent years and has caused the police to take new measures. This is also shown in the statistics: In 2023, the number of advertisements due to cybercrime rose by 9.42 % to a maximum value of 65,864 cases. The clarification rate was 31.6 %, which is a challenge for the law enforcement authorities. Internet fraud is the most widespread form of cybercrime, the advertisements of which have increased by 23.31 %. The increase in these crimes is partially attributed to Covid 19 pandemic, which influenced many aspects of digital life.
Focus of training
In the CCTC, basic training is offered, which consists of seven modules with a total of 32 teaching units and around 50 practical exercises. These exercises include removing a hard drive and securing digital traces. For IT forensics, further special training is provided. The training programs look after two full -time experts and 13 part -time trainers. The practical approach and the "hands-on" training concept strive for effective transfer of knowledge.
The CCTC in Carinthia is part of a comprehensive nationwide criminal stab, which aims to bring the crime -technical knowledge closer to the regions. Four criminal assistant agencies have already been set up in Carinthia, including Klagenfurt and soon Villach.
national initiative against cybercrime
The opening of the CCTC in Carinthia follows the pilot operation of a cyber training center in Upper Austria, which started on August 8, 2023. Interior Minister Karner emphasized the need to set up the police in a modern and effective manner in order to counter the challenges of cybercrime. Networking with scientific institutions and educational institutions such as the "Institute of Digital Sciences Austria" is also strengthened in order to take current developments in the field of online security and to train police officers optimally.
In view of the continuous increase in cybercrime, it is crucial that the police authorities operate well -equipped training centers such as the CCTC in order to obtain the necessary expertise and to offer citizens in Austria protection and security in the digital space. The two CCTC in Carinthia and Upper Austria are an important step in this direction.Overall, the increase in advertisements for cybercrime and the implementation of these training centers shows the relevance and urgency with which the security authorities have to react to the changing risks on the Internet in order to ensure the safety of the population and to combat crimes efficiently.
