Light magic in Braunau: Special exhibition via lanterns and fire

BRAUNAU. An interesting new chapter in the cultural history of Braunau is opened with the special exhibition "And it was light" in the Derzogsburg district museum. This exhibition is dedicated to the versatile possibilities of dealing with fire and light in the course of human history. The exhibits, including antique lanterns and historical devices, shed light on the magical importance of light and the traditions that are associated in many cultures. Admission to this special show is free of charge.

Humanity has learned over the centuries to deal with fire, which is one of the greatest progress in civilization history. By building lanterns, opportunities were created to bring light from one place to another. This knowledge is rooted in many myths and traditions that reward the beauty of light. An example of such a celebration is Martinitag, which is traditionally organized in German -speaking countries in November.

traditions around the light

November 11th has a special meaning in agriculture. The fiscal year is traditionally completed on this day, and many farms slaughter geese because they often serve as a lease. It is also a time to celebrate the harvest. In the darkness of November, Martins fire are lit to bring light into the dark season and as a memory of Saint Martin von Tours, who once helped a freezing beggar.

The special exhibition in Braunau takes visitors on a fascinating journey into the world of light. In addition to the museum's own exhibits, loans are also shown that round off and expand the topic. The exhibition will be opened on Thursday, November 14th, at 7 p.m. in the district museum of Herzogsburg. Visitors have the opportunity to visit the exhibition from Tuesday to Saturday, except in the Christmas holidays, from 1.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibition ends on February 2 with the Festival Mariä Lichtmess.

The evening of the exhibition opening promises to become a special cultural experience in which not only the light is in the foreground, but also the stories it tells. Visitors are cordially invited to be inspired by the atmosphere of the light and its symbolism.
