Two weeks in airspace: military helicopter in intensive training!
In the period from March 10 to April 4, 2025, an intensive exercise program takes place at the helicopter tactics course of the Federal Army. At the aviators in Langenlebarn, Hörsching and Zeltweg, various helicopters including the S70 "Black Hawk", OH-58 "Kiowa" and NH90 are used daily from 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. to teach tactical flies under different conditions. In addition to training in Upper Austria and Lower Austria, specialized ammunitions are also used to make the exercises realistically. Here, for example, orange signal smoke is used to mark landing sites, such as "https://www.noen.at/niederoesterreich/chronik-gericht/taktik-kurs-2025-rotoren-schwirren-bundeheer-bis-bis--mit-hubraubern-46486456"> noen.at reported.
The OH-58 "Kiowa", an important part of this program, is a one-engine, single-rotorous military helicopter by Bell Helicopter, which is used to clarify and direct fire support. Originally developed in the 1960s, the OH-58A was introduced in May 1969 and followed several improvements that significantly increased the combat value capacity of the platform. The modernized OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, equipped with advanced sensors and weapon systems, was used during various conflicts such as the Gulf War and the Afghanistan conflict. The operating history of the OH-58 shows its role as a variety of reconnaissance means that was also used by other nations such as Austria, as in wikipedia
The ability of the OH-58 to operate in difficult conditions is of crucial importance for the air support of the Federal Army in Germany and abroad. Regardless of whether it is to transport personnel or to carry out reconnaissance missions, the OH-58 Kiowa offers the necessary flexibility and efficiency to support the soldiers in the best possible way. In the event of major events, an emergency doctor helicopter is also provided.
