Winter sports boom: 105,000 visitors flock in Lower Austria's ski areas!
Hochkar, Österreich - Winter gets rolling in Lower Austria! The first semester holiday weeks attracted over 105,000 winter athletes to the slopes of the region. This was a clear increase of 13 percent in the first steps compared to the last three winters, as the governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) explained. With more than 1.3 million lift trips, the systems were also heavily frequented. It is impressive that the current visiting level is around ten percent above the level in front of Corona pandemic, which clearly underlines the continuing interest in snow sports, according to the reports by noe.orf.at.
The ski areas, especially on the Hochkar, are rubbing their hands over the good capacity utilization, which came about through numerous families and couples, especially from Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic. This increased demand was also shown in the very sought-after equipment loan markets. The Lower Austria Berger experience pass was also very popular, with already 24,000 uses alone at the Hochkar. As Markus Redl, Managing Director of Ecoplus Alpin GmbH, found, the machine snow ensured that the holidays went smoothly and numerous events, as the Austrian championships in April, could be carried out without any problems, as OE24.at also reported.
weather crisis and good utilization
Although demand is exciting, there are challenges. Little precipitation and hardly any natural snow make the situation complicated, especially in smaller ski areas of the Mostviertel that had to remain closed. Nevertheless, the larger areas and their hotels, like at the Hochkar, keep a good capacity utilization. It is to be hoped that the next five weeks of the season, at the end of the season at the Hochkar on April 6th, will continue to be happy for winter sports fans and the snow will not slow down winter sports.
