The basketball season for the first team of the UBBC Gmünd will start next weekend. The anticipation for the first fight against Traiskirchen is noticeable because the team emerges almost unchanged from last season and has prepared well for the season.

In the last minute, a test game opponent fell into the water, but the Gmünders managed to find a mixed team from České Budějovice at short notice. This game as a dress rehearsal ended for the Gmünder with a pleasant 99: 71 victory. Although coach Franz Chwatal hoped for a higher victory, he was satisfied with his team's performance. "We only competed with eight players and still showed strong phases," he said proudly.

A drop of bitterness is that Michael Traxler will not be in a team due to injuries, especially on the Achilles tendon. Despite this challenge, Chwatal is optimistic about the first game. "I expect a win against Traiskirchen, even if the exact opponents are difficult to estimate," he added.

The first encounters are of great importance for Gmünd, since the opponents are expected to represent direct competitors for sixth place in the table. It is particularly important to stay among the top six teams in the Landesliga to protect the chance for the title.

After the duel against Traiskirchen, a number of home games follow, including encounters against Bruck and Tulln. The primary goal of the UBBC is to secure a place in the play-offs that will take place after a further round with semi-finals and finals. So the team will do everything possible to make the season successfully and shine on the basketball field.
