Regenerative tourism: Wiener Alpen rely on sustainable strategies

d ie tourism Region Wiener Alpen recently presented its new strategy, the so-called "renewable tourism". This was presented in the casemates in Wiener Neustadt, in front of an audience of around 130 representatives from the business and community world. The aim of this innovative approach is to benefit not only the visitors to the region, but also to the locals and local companies.

The concept of renewable tourism goes beyond the conventional ideas of sustainability. While sustainable tourism aims to minimize negative effects on the environment and society, the regenerative approach goes one step further: it strives to repair existing damage and to create a positive effect on nature, people and the cultural identity of the region. Kristiane Spiegl, the head of the division and innovation management in Lower Austria, explained these differences in her speech.

detailed idea of the strategy

The new strategy should not only establish the Vienna Alps region as a tourist magnet, but also act as an exemplary model for harmonious coexistence between nature and humans. The events that were carried out to announce the strategy included both lectures and discussion rounds, with the exchange between the actors in the industry. A central aspect is that local tourism and offers for guests should be linked more closely.

The personalities present also included representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and hotel operators who are already actively dealing with regeneration in tourism. This cooperation between political actors, the economy and tourism organizations is crucial to ensure the comprehensive acceptance and implementation of the concept.

The initiators of the strategy emphasize that the regenerative approach must not only be ecologically but also economically viable. In the long term, this gives the opportunity to preserve nature on the one hand through this new form of tourism and, on the other hand, to stabilize and further develop the region economically. With the idea of this strategy, a significant step has been taken in the right direction. However, success will only be shown when the concepts are put into practice and continuously adapted.
