Waidhofen/Thaya fights bravely for point against strong SC Lilienfeld

Last week there was an exciting football game between the Waidhofen/Thaya sports club and the Lilienfeld sports club in the 2nd Landesliga West. In a sun-flooded afternoon, the two teams fought for important points in the table, with Waidhofen/Thaya, which was located at the end of the table, surprised and took the lead early.

The match was energetic from the start because the hosts performed powerfully after the kick -off. In the 19th minute, after a precise pass by Saritas, Oliver Bauer scored the 1-0 lead for Waidhofen/Thaya, using an error in the defense of Nzogang ice cold and promoted the ball into the short corner. The lily fields, which were considered favorites in advance and found themselves in fourth place in the table, were visibly surprised by this deficit, but they did not give up and continued to fight on the field.

The setback for Lilienfeld

Waidhofen/Thaya not only showed a resolute defense, but also a strong goalkeeper in Altschach, which was able to defuse several good chances of the lily fields. Especially an impressive header from Soare in the first half was a big challenge for him, but he demonstrated his class and parried it confidently. The hosts had more chances of expanding the result, but failed just because of it. The first half ended with a narrow but deserved lead for Waidhofen/Thaya.

The second half started with a changed course of the game when SC Lilienfeld took over more and more control over the events on the square. Already in the 54th minute the guests managed to equalize: Ionut-Eduard Soare headed the ball freely after a well-placed free kick to 1: 1 in the stitches. This gate led to an increased pressure on the Waidhofener, who now had to do everything possible to defend the tie.

The lily fields urged the leadership, with the offensive, led by El Sayed and Basholli, always causing danger. Despite these attacks, Altchach remained a safe backing for Waidhofen/Thaya and prevented another deficit for his team with several great parades, including two in the 67th minute. In the course of the game, the Waidhofener demonstrated a solid defensive performance and managed to ward off the pressure of the lily fields and to save the tie until the final whistle.

After a total of 95 exciting minutes, the meeting ended with a draw that Waidhofen/Thaya, despite the difficult table situation, could look forward to. The SC Lilienfeld took the draw after they were clearly superior in the second half. The game once again showed the unpredictable character of football and the tireless dedication of both teams in the field.
