In the Waidhofen/Thaya district, the weak economic situation is also evident on the labor market. Unemployment rose by 2.6 percent in September 2023 compared to the previous month, which was above expectations. Nevertheless, there are also positive developments: compared to September 2019, the number of unemployed has dropped by 19.1 percent. It is particularly noteworthy that the number of job seekers of the main employee, i.e. between 25 and 49 years, could be reduced by 13.2 percent with the last 184.

In the first three quarters of the year, a total of 1,001 people were able to end their unemployment after finding a new job. This corresponds to an increase of 12.7 percent compared to the same period last year. These figures illustrate that despite the current challenges, the labor market continues to offer opportunities.

long -term unemployment and training offers

A remarkable success is the drastic reduction in long -term unemployment in the past five years by remarkable 68.9 percent. There are currently only 28 long -term unemployed in the district, which means that support is fruitful in this regard. Edith Palisek-Zach, the head of the AMS office, emphasizes that long-term unemployment should not be regarded as an unchangeable fate, especially in times of weaker economy. "Our motto is always: everyone gets an offer - be it a job or qualification," she explains.

By the end of September 2024, eight long -term unemployed people were able to enter the labor market again. In addition, 135 job seekers from Waidhofen used training offers from the AMS, which represents an increase of 17.4 percent compared to the previous year. These initiatives are crucial to offer those affected new perspectives.

The AMS Waidhofen can currently come up with 168 vacancies. This corresponds to a decline of 20.4 percent compared to the previous year, but this still means that the offer rose by 50 percent compared to five years ago. The multitude of available positions could be a valuable opportunity for many job seekers to reorient themselves.

The current developments on the labor market show that despite the challenges due to the economic uncertainty, many people in Waidhofen continue to look for opportunities and can also use them, as the increased figures illustrate when working
