Maximillian Titz withdraws after ten years as mayor

The Mayor of St. André-Wördern, Maximillian Titz, has surprisingly announced that he will no longer take the upcoming municipal election as the top candidate of the ÖVP. After a decade at the top, he joined the municipal council as a top candidate in 2008 and has significantly influenced the fortunes of the community since then.

In an interview, Titz reflected on the challenges that he met during his term. The interactions with the citizens in particular shaped his everyday life. "The personal problems of our neighbors, such as disputes or construction problems, have always been a challenge. In addition, we had significant projects such as the Hagenbach, which is still under construction, and the conversion of street lighting to LED," said Titz.

decision for a generation change

The decision not to compete as a top candidate explains Titz with the idea of a necessary generation change. "I think that a new generation should come now. Even if I leave as a mayor, I will continue to stay connected to the community and will be available," said Titz. This proactive attitude shows that despite the withdrawal from the front row, it wants to continue to be active.

The only drop of bitterness remains the fragmentation of the political landscape. "There are now six parties that represent all different ideas. A strong coalition that is able to act would be desirable," emphasizes Titz. The high competitive pressure between six parties could make political work in the community significantly more difficult.

Review of an eventful term

Titz has a positive look back on the past ten years. "I was able to calm the political side here and achieved a common, productive cooperation with the opposition parties," explains the mayor. Nevertheless, his term was not without challenges. The pandemic and floods in particular were formative events that Titz demanded as mayor.

his outlook for the future is now characterized by a calm but active lifestyle: "I will take back and enjoy a little, but still be active in the community when there is a need," he shows himself optimistic. For Titz, the decision not to run anymore does not mean the end of his commitment. Further information on Titz 'Farewell to the political stage can be found here .
