Groundwater problem in Wagram: congregations are fighting for solutions

The Wagram region cut off relatively lightly during the flood this year, but there are still problems with increasing groundwater that affect several communities. Frauendorf is particularly affected, where the residents have painful experiences from the floods of the past few years. A resident urged that after the devastating flood in 2002 they had to live in the basement for over a year with half a meter of groundwater. Even after the storms in September, the groundwater level in the basement again rose to about 60 centimeters. There are currently around 55 centimeters.

In the municipal area of ​​Königsbrunn, measures have already been taken to counteract the groundwater problem. Since the 2010 flood, three pumps have been installed that derive the water from the region into trenches. Mayor Franz Stöger reported that two of these pumps could be activated just three days after the flood. For the third pump that stands next to the bathing pond in Frauendorf, technical problems were previously solved and an emergency generator organized. This pump is to be put into operation in the next few days.
