Ten years of Hoki Lower Austria: Voluntary hospice companion for children honored

In the St. Pölten town hall, a special celebration took place in which the children's hospice team Hoki Lower Austria celebrated its tenth anniversary. This ceremony was not only characterized by the presence of important personalities such as the state councilors Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig and Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister as well as municipal councilor Carola Felsenstein, but also through the honor of 21 volunteer hospice attendants who successfully completed their first combination course.

The Hoki NÖ Team has supported countless families in Lower Austria in difficult life situations since its foundation in 2014. According to Klaudia Atzmüller, chair of the Hospiz Lower Austria Association, the volunteers are the "heart of every hospice work". They play a crucial role, not only for children and adolescents with serious illnesses, but also for their siblings and parents, who relieve them by enabling urgently needed time -out.

accompaniment for families

The coordinators Karin Swoboda and Sandra Melichar emphasize the individual support that the volunteer kidnate hospice companions offer: "Through their being there, their care, flexibility and creativity bring relief." This type of accompaniment is particularly valuable because it depends on the specific needs of the respective family.

An essential part of the anniversary was the presentation of a combination course that gives the participants the necessary skills to professionally support children in critical situations. While the training does not require medical knowledge, empathy and joy in dealing with people are essential. Interested parties can register for the next course from spring 2025.

The celebration also emphasized the important role of mobile children's hospice teams in specialized pediatric care. During the ceremony, fairy tale meter Helmut Wittmann gave a fascinating lecture that delighted the listeners with stories of happiness and joie de vivre. This type of narrative art is of particular importance in children's hospice accompaniment because it provides comfort and hope.

Mag. Claudia Nemeth from the umbrella organization Hospiz Austria and Sabine Schwarz gave valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities that work in the hospice field brings. It was talked about the developments of Hoki NÖ and the future challenges, whereby the focus was on the target to achieve even more people and to offer them support in challenging phases of life.

The anniversary brings an important milestone for the children's hospice team Hoki Lower Austria and underlines the commitment of the state association to expand the training for volunteers. In this way you can work even more effectively and offer valuable support if it is most needed.
