St. Pölten, Österreich - On January 15, 2025, diocesan bishop Alois Schwarz appointed two new members to the cathedral chapter as part of a consistory in St. Pölten. The newly appointed cathedral capitals are Oliver Becker, born in 1965 and pastor in the southern Walviertel, and Martin Hochedlinger, born in 1974, who, among other things, heads the hospital pastoral at the University Hospital St. Pölten. The official appointments were made after the retirement by Gottfried Auer and Herbert Döller, which made two canon cables free. The ceremonial admission of the new members will take place on March 2 at 4 p.m. as part of a Vesper, such as the Kap reported.
new leadership roles in the cathedral chapter
In addition to the appointments in the cathedral chapter, the pastor Mag. Josef Kowar was appointed the new cathedral dean on December 8, 2024. Martin Hochedlinger, who is now also committed to the priestly council, follows Mag. Pawel Wojciech Przybysz, who was sent to the priesthood of the Deanery St. Pölten. These details were published in the My church newspaper . Both the new occupations and the upcoming changes within the church structure aim to strengthen the liturgical and advisory functions of the cathedral chapter.
As part of these changes, several further change of personnel within the diocese were announced. The diverse tasks of the cathedral captain include both the liturgical service and the advisory of the bishop, which underlines the importance of these appointments. The St. Pöltner cathedral chapter, which consists of eight canonists, plays a central role in the Catholic Church in the region.
