Art and history: exhibition about photographer Kurt Bardos in St. Pölten

From April 11th to November 9th, 2025, a special exchange exhibition will take place in the former St. Pölten synagogue: "I am an Austrian! The photographer Kurt Bardos (1914 Brno - 1944 last lane Auschwitz)". This exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of photographer Kurt Bardos and shows not only his remarkable artistic photographs, but also the fates of his family, which are shaped by the Shoah and several migrations. Curator Martha Keil explains that the exhibition is told from a perspective that is shaped by the sister Bardos', Ilse. While the photos with artistry and a touch come from the new objectivity, the family history preserved is also presented in the form of video interviews and objects, which surprisingly survived despite the difficult times, such as ots.at reported.

Kurt Bardos and its meaning

Kurt Bardos was not only an artist, but also a symbol figure for the challenges with which his family was confronted. His fate, which ended in Auschwitz in 1944, illustrates the tragedy of the time and lets visitors immerse themselves deeply into history and emotional experiences. The exhibition is therefore not only a tribute to Bardos' photographic talent, but also a call to keep the memories of the persecuted. The link between art and history makes this presentation particularly valuable and relevant.

In addition to this important exhibition, the festival of Jewish music "Jewish Weekends" 2025 will take place again and a cultural bridge will take place. It offers concerts with well -known artists who celebrate the Sephardic music tradition and takes place in one of the most impressive scenes. Appointments are 16 to 18 and 24 to May 25, 2025, where the Al’fado ensemble from Lisbon and the Spanish singer Ana Alcaide occurs. These events, as well as the exhibition on Kurt Bardos, offer an important platform to put the rich Jewish heritage and the cultural traditions in the spotlight.
