Memories of Kurt Bardos: Exhibition in St. Pölten opens your doors!
The former synagogue in St. Pölten will open on April 11, 2025 with a captivating exchange exhibition about the photographer Kurt Bardos, which will be shown by November 9, 2025. This exhibition entitled "I am an Austrian!" illuminates the tragic life story of Bardo and his family, which is characterized by the horrors of the Shoah, political persecution in the communist regime and several migrations. The story is conveyed by his sister Ilse's stories, which gives an intimate insight into the life of the family. "The artistic work of a young photographer murdered in the Shoah, the memories of his sister, who is so deeply connected to him and the intensive conversations with his nieces, open up very special access to Kurt Bardos and his family," explains Martha Keil, curator of the exhibition, like OTS
The exhibition will focus on Bardos ’impressive photos that interpret the stylistic means of the new objectivity. These almost re -discovered works illustrate the artistic talent of the photographer, who was born in Brno in 1914. A moving supporting program for the opening is required with the pianist Dorothy Khadem-Missagh and musicians of the Doležal Quartet, the works of the Brünner composer Pavel Haas, who was deported together with Bardos. This connection increases the emotional content of the event. Entry to the celebration on the opening day is free; However, it is requested for prior registration, such as former-synagoge.at highlighted.
The exhibition not only addresses art, but also the preservation of memories by showing personal objects from family -owned that survived despite the numerous setbacks. This unique combination of photographic art and personal stories will enable visitors a deeper connection to Bardos ’life story and the tragic circumstances of his time. Representing memory and learning from history, the exhibition will be under the annual focus "Remembering for the future" of the state of Lower Austria.
