The focus was on active mobility and urban renewal in this year's sustainability days in the city of Scheibbs. The environmental councilor Joseph Hofmarcher emphasized the importance of promoting foot and bike traffic in order to upgrade the town center. This initiative is part of a comprehensive process that is supposed to improve the quality of life in the city.

The lecture evening, which took place in the Kultur.Portal, brought together experts, including Helmut Koch from the “Komobile” office. Koch emphasized that a rethink is necessary for a successful implementation. It is not about banishing the car completely from everyday life, but rather about facilitation and making everyday ways more attractive.

Fewer car journeys for short distances

Koch pointed out that many car journeys are not necessary because they often lead over short distances of less than five kilometers. These routes could be easily covered by bike if the infrastructure is designed accordingly - with as few stops and great bike paths as possible.

In addition to the lectures, there was an excursion to Wieselburg, where the participants came with the Erlauftalbahn. There, the building manager Thomas Lichtenschopf explained the progress in the city's network of foot and cycle paths.

Such measures are crucial to create a model for sustainable mobility in the region.
