Sustainable workshops at Beta Campus: Future visions for children

The Beta Campus in Waidhofen an der Ybbs recently was the meeting place for young people who dealt with a future -oriented topic: sustainability. In a number of workshops, students had the opportunity to gain knowledge of sustainable building, renewable energies and team building in a playful way. The event aimed at raising awareness of important future topics and promoting the young participants. The project days of the Economic and Music Middle School, which have been taking place in cooperation with the Beta Campus for two years now, are particularly noteworthy. Teacher Jonathan Ritt enthusiastically reported: "The different workshops were perfectly tailored to our students and provided enthusiasm and radiant faces."

Overall, the students were offered three workshops that differed methodically and in terms of content. The older students in the third class developed their vision of a “Green City of the Future”. They also learned the principles of sustainable building. The recent years had the opportunity to learn more about renewable energies using a research case. They experimented with solar, wind and hydropower. For the smallest stand, the creative building of a da Vinci bridge on the program in which team spirit and strategic thinking were required.

The popular Beta Kids format was organized at the same time, which introduced younger children into the fascinating world of energy. They played questions like: "What do electricity and chocolate have in common?" With exciting experiments and manual tasks, it was possible to convey basic concepts of electricity and energy. This knowledge can motivate the children to apply the new knowledge in everyday life.
