Price increase in the climate: from 2025 up to 1,400 euros due!

From January 1, 2025, the price of the Austria -wide climate coat will increase from 1,095 euros to 1,179.30 euros. This price adjustment is part of a larger government savings plan to consolidate the public sector. In August 2025, the price will be raised to 1,300 euros again and from January 2026 to 1,400 euros. This increase affects both the classic and the reduced version of the climatic coat, the introduction of which took place on October 26, 2021. The current price of 1,095 euros has not been fundamentally increased for almost four years, which underlines the need for adaptation, according to experts. For example, krone.at reports that the consumer price index rose by 24% during the same period, while the ticket price only increased by 8%.

The price increase is primarily caused by the savings measures by Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer (SPÖ). Specifically, the free climate for 18-year-olds is canceled, and the climate monus, which was between 145 and 290 euros, is also abolished. All of these measures should serve to stabilize the country's financial framework and to ensure long -term consolidation. Transport Minister Peter Hanke officially announced the price adjustments and emphasized that they will affect new purchases and extensions in particular. Existing tickets remain unaffected by these increases.

User relocates their mobility behavior on public transport, which is seen as a positive sign of the government's climate goals.
