Elections in Lower Austria: People's Party is fighting for the rural majority!
The elections in Lower Austria are just around the corner, and the People's Party (ÖVP) is optimistic. In the upcoming agricultural and economic chamber elections, the top candidates Johannes Schmuckenschlager and Wolfgang Ecker are once again ahead. Schmuckenschlager leads the Lower Austrian farmers' association, which triumphed 85 percent of the vote in 2020 and conquered 33 out of 36 mandates. While the Freedom Farmers and the SPÖ farmers hardly play a role after the failed participation in the four percent hurdle, the election on March 9 will mobilize many voters, including around 154,994, justified votes, especially from the Mistelbach and Amstetten districts, such as orf.at reports .
strong in rural areas
With an impressive result of 30.8 percent of the vote in rural areas, the People's Party secured a clear second place in the 2024 National Council election. The survey values show that consent among self -employed and especially for farmers is over 70 percent, which underlines the importance of rural areas for the election campaign. The People's Party has completed 26.5 percent, well above the total value, such as bauernbund.at . Farmersbund President Georg Strasser and director David Süß emphasize the mobilization performance in the rural sector and the responsibility that Karl Nehammer took over as the new party chairman.
The upcoming elections are not only crucial for the chamber policy actors, but also a test for the People's Party, which, due to the strong results in rural regions, would like a solid basis for the future. The applicants for the Chamber of Agriculture and the leading candidates in the Wirtschaftsbund are ready to fight again for their concerns, while the voter groups are mobilized and the ÖVP is ready to focus on the interests of the rural families.
