The efforts to make the new walking and cycle path in Pillichsdorf have now carried fruit. In a protracted process that required many negotiations on land, Mayor Florian Faber and Vice Mayor Alexandra Nürnberger created the right conditions to implement this important infrastructure connection. The newly built path makes it possible for the residents of Pillichsdorf to get directly and safely to the Obersdorf-Pillichsdorf train station.
A crucial measure was the construction of a bridge over the Russbach that helps cyclists to avoid the dangerous and confusing intersection between Wiener Strasse and Wolkersdorfer Straße. This new path first leads to the right side of Wiener Straße, where it continues through a cycling and pedestrian crossing to the new intersection on Seyringer Straße. Further sections to the train station are already in the planning.
relief for commuters and the villagers
The main goal behind the creation of this bicycle path was to provide a secure connection for the Pillichsdorfer and at the same time better to network the upper town with the center. In addition, the traffic situation for residents is significantly improved by these measures. "With these measures, Pillichsdorf has made a significant contribution to the promotion of active mobility," said the mayor.
The redesign of the streets around the elementary school and the state kindergarten ensures special joy. The municipal council decided to set up a bicycle road to improve the accessibility of these important facilities without having to create a new walking and bike path. This not only prevents the ground from sealing, but the traffic of car is also led back to the main street. "With that we have traffic -calmed down from Pillichsdorf and it feels like it used to be," continued Mayor Faber.
The positive response to the new paths is already noticeable. The parents are particularly pleased that they can now cycle to school or kindergarten with their children in the fresh air and without noise and exhaust gas pollution. This initiative not only improves the utilization of the streets, but also promoted an environmentally friendly lifestyle. It remains to be seen how this development will continue to have an impact in the future, especially with regard to the planned expansion of the bike paths to the train station and beyond.
