My Nitsch: Essl reveals personal insights into Nitsch's art world

In the Nitsch Museum in Mistelbach, a special exhibition on the life's work of the late artist Hermann Nitsch will take place next year. The renowned art collector Karlheinz Essl, who maintained a close relationship with Nitsch, will curate the show entitled "My Nitsch". This exhibition opens on March 30, 2025 and shows Essl's individual view of the artistic work of one of the best -known contemporary artists in Austria.

Karlheinz Essl, together with his wife Agnes, concentrated on Nitsch's works since the 1980s and organized several exhibitions on his work over the years. This personal dedication to the work of Nitsch led to a deep friendship between collector and artist that was characterized by traveling together, a lively exchange about philosophical questions and even walks together in the vineyards of the Weinviertel.

A look in Nitsch's world

The exhibition will be open until November 30, 2025 and promises a comprehensive insight into Nitsch's fascinating worldview that addresses not only art, but also the great questions of life. This includes the "white picture", a unique piece typical of Nitsch, which will be seen for the first time in this exhibition. In addition, numerous works from different creative periods of the artist are presented, which illustrate the development of Nitsch to strong colors and deep emotional topics.

Essl itself is known for his significant collection of contemporary art, which he has built up since the 1970s and which served as the basis for the Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg, which offered more than 200 exhibitions until it was closed in 2016. Nitsch was not only famous in Austria, but also achieved international recognition, and the Nitsch Museum in Mistelbach, which he designed with, is now one of the largest monothematic museums in the country. The event, which ESSL is now curating in Mistelbach, is a first opportunity for visitors to experience a very personal perspective on Nitsch's work.

This exhibition is not only a tribute to Nitsch, but also to the long -term friendship and the influential cooperation between Karlheinz Essl and Hermann Nitsch. For art lovers and for the region, this is an important opportunity to experience the creative connection and the great artistic vision of Nitsch.
