Flood in Eibebrunn: wind turbine under water and bees lost

A shocking flood hit the region around the Russbach in mid -September. In some areas, even a wind turbine was under water, and numerous beehives were destroyed by the floods. The situation in Eibesbrunn and Großebersdorf was particularly dramatic where the forces of nature caused considerable damage.

"The Russbach stepped over the banks, and the effects were devastating," reports the mayor of Großebersdorf, Fritz Haindl. The KG Eibebrunn was particularly affected, where agricultural areas and even the tennis court were flooded. A striking picture was the wind turbine, some of which sank into the water. Fortunately, despite the feared damage to the wind turbine, the influence remained limited. Nevertheless, the cleanup and the damage is in full swing.

The blatant damage and necessary measures

A particularly tragic event occurred for a local beekeeper who tried to save her bees during the flood. On the way to their bee colonies, their car sank and the animals could not be saved. Your insurance will have to pay for the resulting losses.

In order to remedy the damage sustainably, the municipality is now under pressure to negotiate with the Russbach water association to ensure that the course of the river will be better serviced in the future. "If we had taken care of the care of the channel at an early stage, many of these floods might have been prevented," says Haindl. A specialized team has already been commissioned to examine the heavily damaged dirt road in Manhartsbrunn.

In retrospect of the events, the mayor also expresses a positive aspect: "We had the opportunity to gain numerous experiences that are valuable for the community's crisis staff." During the flood period, the crisis team had to work together quickly to coordinate the fire brigade's operations between the different districts and to use supportive forces.

Overall, this incident shows how important preventive measures in relation to natural disasters are. The community hopes to learn from this experience and to be better prepared in the future. Further information on the incidents and planned measures can be found on www.noen.at be read.
