Drama in Oberndorf: Fire brigade saves injured residents from fire ruins

In the quiet community of Oberndorf an der Melk, a worrying incident occurred on Saturday evening, November 9, 2024. At around 5:00 p.m., the district alarm center Amstetten received an urgent emergency call. One person reported on an apartment fire and announced that there were also another person and a dog in the affected apartment.

The situation was serious because the two people were apparently unable to leave the apartment independently. The alarm center then activated a use of stage B2 with rescue. Around 60 firefighters quickly made themselves from four different weirs, several ambulances and an emergency doctor on their way to the scene of the accident, supported by the police.

intervention by the fire brigade

The urgency of the mission increased when the telephone contact with the trapped persons stopped shortly before the emergency services arrived. The fire brigade carried out an immediate location exploration and used breathing apparatus wearers to penetrate the heavily smoky apartment. When opening the door, the dog used the possibility and escaped outside.

Nevertheless, the fire brigade immediately started looking for the two people. Despite the strong smoke development and soot in the apartment, the team was able to quickly lock both and bring them outside. There they were handed over directly to the emergency services, which quickly acted due to the severity of their injuries and both transported them to a clinic.

After the injuries were safe, the fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control and extinguished the flames. The emergency services then ventilated the apartment before finally reporting "fire".

At the moment, the exact cause of the fire is still unknown and is examined by the police. Details on the exact circumstances are still sparse and will certainly be further illuminated in the coming days.
