Iran: insights into the women's protest - event in Krems

On Friday, December 6th, the Krems-St parish hall. Veit an important lecture on the situation in Iran. The ORF correspondent Katharina Wagner is the main speaker and will talk about the current challenges in Iran. Her lecture is entitled "Iran - Excess of women" and deals with the bloody suppression of the protests that took place under the motto "Woman, Life, Freedom".

The event is organized in cooperation with the General Secretary of Amnesty International (AI), Shoura Zehetner-Hashemi, who will also share her perspectives and experiences. It is discussed what protesters who speak out against the rigor of the veiling law have to go through and how the international community can support women in this difficult situation.

Katharina Wagner, who has been working for ORF since 2012, has extensive international experience as a journalist. Among other things, she reported in Paris and Rome and has been an office manager for the ORF office in Istanbul, with a branch in Tehran since 2022. Wagner had the opportunity to travel to Iran as one of the few journalists since the start of the protests in September 2022.

Shoura Zehetner-Hashemi brings her personal history into the discussion round. As a five -year -old child, she fled to Austria with her parents from Iran. After many years of activity in the diplomatic service of the Foreign Ministry, she became a committed human rights activist through the events in Iran and is now committed to the rights of women and for freedom in Iran.

The event not only offers current insights into the challenges with which Iranian society is confronted, but also a platform for the exchange of information about possible support measures. Entry takes place through voluntary donations, and the Catholic Education and the Amnesty International Group from Krems cordially invite the public to take part in this important discussion.
