Soogut social market in Korneuburg: cheap food for the needy

A positive development for the city of Korneuburg is emerging: after the social gestler was closed in May, the city administration took significant steps to establish a new social market. Mayor Christian Gepp and Vice Mayor Helene Fuchs-Moser held numerous talks with the Soogut-social markets GmbH and were finally able to win a new branch for Korneuburg.

Ursula Oswald, the spokeswoman for the organization, confirmed the plans for the social market: "The information that a Soogut social market will soon open in Korneuburg is correct." The market, which is expected to open at the end of November 2024, is aimed at people who sustainably want to buy high -quality food and everyday goods at discounted prices, unless they exceed an income limit. This ensures that needy households in the region can continue to be supplied.

Details about the opening and support

The new social market is opened at the location of the former social giant at Stockerauer Straße 11-13 and initially operated by the team from Stockerau. In order for the opening and the company to be able to run smoothly, the municipal council unanimously decided to support the market in its meeting on October 9th. The support amounts to a maximum of 50 percent of rental and operating costs as well as the coverage of the costs for additional waste disposal, initially for a period of three years.

Mayor Gepp and Vice Mayor Fuchs-Moser was pleased with the rapid progress in the negotiations: "We have put everything in order to conclude this supply gap for our citizens who rely on it as soon as possible-and we succeeded."

The initiators hope to assume not only an ecological but also social responsibility through the new market. The philosophy of the Soogut markets is based on resource conservation and sustainability-an important message for the region.
