Desperate residents in Simmering: line 71 deleted!
Simmering, Wien, Österreich - In Vienna, the replacement of line 71 ensures great uncertainty among residents and users of public transport links. Special focus is on the four central stops Hauffgasse, Zippererstraße, Molitorgasse and Litfaßstraße, which have not been hit since today. FPÖ-Simmeringer District of Deputy Daniel Eigner and FPÖ-Simmering club chairman Patrick Horn express sharp criticism of this decision. They describe the situation as intolerable, especially for the elderly or restricted mobility.
The replacement bus 71E set up only runs to St. Marx, which is not an adequate solution for the Simmeringer section. The owner emphasizes that the district council supported an application for rail replacement traffic, which was ignored by the red-pink city government, as Horn criticized.
massive effects on residents
As part of the summer construction in Simmering, the situation is extremely complicated for many passengers of public transport. The current connection of line 71 only ranges between Kaiserebersdorf, Zinergasse and Enkplatz and makes many complaints from residents and business owners loud. Residents complain that they often have to cover several hundred meters on foot to get to a stop that could offer a connection.
missing barrier -free access
The Viennese lines have justified the lack of consistent replacement traffic connections with the need for construction work and foot -proof connections within a radius of 200 to 550 meters. However, a replacement bus between Karlsplatz and St. Marx has already been set up in other Viennese districts, such as Leopoldstadt. This raises the question of why Simmering is disadvantaged in this regard.
In order to improve the situation for people restricted mobility, a continuous, barrier -free replacement bus in the district area is required. The currently existing guide to barrier -free design of public transport, created by the Austrian Research Society Mobility on behalf of the Federal Ministry, clarifies the necessary requirements and legal framework conditions. This is currently being revised and is intended to help experts find suitable solutions and to improve existing mobility.
The FPÖ confirms its point of view that the concerns of the residents and the importance of fair and accessible local transport connection may not be ignored. It remains to be seen whether and when the urgent demands for a comprehensive solution will be heard.
Further information on the current developments can be found in the reports of OTS , and on the subject of accessibility in public transport in a guide, created by Federal Ministry of Mobility and Innovation .
