Vendée Globe 2024: Germany's sailing heroes in the race around the world!

The Vendée Globe, the largest solo sailing regatta in the world, is about to start her tenth edition, which will start on November 10, 2024 in Les Sables d’Olonne, France. This spectacular regatta takes place around the globe, without stopover and without external help. At the first edition of the Vendée Globe in 1989, which was launched by Philippe Jeantot, 13 sailors took part, only seven of which reached the goal. This year, 40 yachts of the IMOCA class will take part in the regatta, which is a record.

The route of the Vendée Globe is 45,000 kilometers (24,300 nautical miles) and leads the participants around the three Kaps: good hope, Leeuwin and Horn. The record time for this global base is 74 days and three hours, set up during the 2016/17 edition. At the last regatta 2020/21, the arrival times between 80 and 116 days were. In order to be able to participate, the skipper must participate in two out of three selected races, which has tightened the conditions for the participants.

participants and favorites

Boris Herrmann will be there for the second time in this issue. At the last Vendée Globe he took fifth place and took 80 days, 20 hours, 59 minutes and 45 seconds. Another German participant is Isabelle Joschke, who also competes for the second time. Herrmann sails with the Yacht Malizia - Seaexplorer, which was baptized in September 2022 and has since covered over 60,000 nautical miles in racing mode. Charlie Dalin is traded as a top favorite, but has strong competition from Herrmann and other experienced skippers.

Interestingly, in the history of the Vendée Globe, only French have won the regatta. In the last issue, Yannick Bestaven was able to emerge as the winner, although he finished third, which earned him a time credit.
