Martin Bock heads Lippische Landeskirche after 25 years by Dr. Schilberg

On Saturday, November 23, a festive service took place in the city church of Horn, which Martin Bock (49) introduced to his new position as the legal church council of the Lippische Landeskirche. At the same time, Dr. Arno Schilberg (64), who worked in this position for 25 years. His last official act will be the introduction of the budget of the regional church in the Lippische State Synod on November 25th and 26th in Augustdorf.

The service received a special character from the musical framework of the wind ensemble Lippe Brass under the direction of Christian Kornmaul and the jazz pop choir of the Popkantorat Lippe. President of the state synod, Michael Keil, encouraged both the outgoing and the new church council in his speech. He emphasized the importance of paying attention to the accompanying presence of Jesus in everyday life situations.

The new challenges

In his speech to Martin Bock, Keil gave the hint of starting the new task with enthusiasm and energy and not being discouraged by the challenges. He wished Schilberg for his upcoming phase of life that he is always accompanied on his way with new surprises. Schilberg will remain active until February 1, 2024 and incorporate his successor into this important role.

State superintendent Dietmar Arends paid tribute to Schilberg's longstanding commitment and thanked for the trusting cooperation. Changes and transformation processes are of great importance for the regional church, and Arends expressed his joy that Martin Bock is willing to bring in his extensive experience and expertise.

The Legal Church Council has an important function within the regional church because it is responsible for legal and financial matters. Bock was elected to this office by the Lippische State Synod in June and will start service in Lippe on December 1st. The challenge that lies in front of him will be shaped in particular by the inner church transformation processes that the church wants to shape in the coming years.

The introduction of Martin Bock stands not only for a change of office, but also for a dynamic change within the Lippische Landeskirche, which is steadily looking for new ways and solutions to meet the church challenges of the future. These changes are a step in the right direction to put the church in a future -oriented manner and to meet the needs of the community.
