Young roofer from Horn becomes world champion in flat roof construction!

Another chapter of success for Graf-Holztechnik: The talented Bernhard Breuer secured the coveted 1st place in the “Flachdach” competition at the World Cup of the Young Dachdecker in Innsbruck and thus brought a gold medal home. This event took place from November 13th to 15th, 2024 as part of the 29th international roofer competition of the IFD and collected the best young talents from different countries.

Bernhard, who comes from Grainbrunn near Sallingberg, chose a double teach as a carpenter and building poet and competed with his team -mate Jakob Waldner. Under the critical eyes of an international jury, they demonstrated their skills in various disciplines and were able to prevail against strong competition from countries such as China, Germany and Switzerland.

Details on the competition

The competition was divided into two decisive modules, supplemented by a creative freestyle that was not simple into the evaluation. Module 1 included the construction of a roof, whereby the participants had to use a steam brake and roof insulation, as well as the correct attachment of a film. In addition, the insertion of a light dome and the precise preparation of foil sheets.

in Module 2, the focus was on installing a bitumen track on a prepared roof. The teams also had to integrate various pipes and connections and seal an internal gutter. In the creatively designed freestyle, the participants were required to provide a staircase with liquid plastic and to connect color design elements.

A lot of time was invested in the run -up to the championship. Under the guidance of their mentor, Peter Amann, Bernhard and Jakob trained from the Sika company to further improve the required technical skills and precision. They already achieved their qualification for the World Cup in June with a preliminary decision.

a model for training

Bernhard Breuer, who shortly passed his apprenticeship examination, has crowned his training in the roofing trade with this title. Roland Ernst, the head of Graf-Holztechnik, said: "I congratulate Bernhard on his outstanding success at the World Cup of the young roofers. He trained with the highest discipline for weeks and asserted himself at international level. We are very proud to have Bernhard as part of our team and wish him continued success."

The successes of Breuer and Waldner show the high level of apprenticeship training in the Leyrer + Graf group. Here is placed great emphasis on practical training that promotes both theoretical knowledge and creative problem -solving skills.

Participation in such competitions is not only a personal challenge, but also contributes to the further development of the manual skills and techniques of the young roofers, which they can apply in the course of their career. A deep insight into the funding structures of the Graf wood technology testifies to first-class preparation for the challenges in the construction and roofing industry.
