Security for Hollabrunn: 1.75 million euros for flood protection
In Hollabrunn, a significant flood protection project has been successfully completed, which should significantly improve the safety of the residents in the event of possible floods. The construction, which started in the summer of 2021, comprises four retention basin with a total volume of around 74,000 cubic meters. The cost of this project was 1.75 million euros and were financed by various public bodies.
The importance of this project cannot be emphasized enough. In view of the recent heavy rain events that led to floods in many regions, investment in flood protection is of crucial importance. LH deputy Stephan Pernkopf handed out his recognition when manufacturing the project and explained that the flood protection project on Puchbach is a sustainable solution for people in the region. "We take specific measures to increase the security of the population," he added.
financing and environmental aspects
The total financing of the project was divided into several carriers: the federal government contributed around 50 percent of the costs, which is 868,000 euros. The state of Lower Austria took over 40 percent with a sum of 693,000 euros, while the municipality of Hollabrunn contributed around 10 percent, i.e. 189,000 euros. This cooperation between different government levels shows how important protection against natural disasters is today.
A positive aspect of the project is also the integration and expansion of an existing biotope, which leads to a valuable contribution to ecological diversity. This not only improves flood protection, but also upgraded the environment in the region.
Mayor Alfred Babinsky expressed the mood in the community by saying: "For our community, this flood protection project is an enormous profit. The security of our citizens is the top priority." With the construction of the new retention basin, the citizens in Hollabrunn are now better prepared for flood events.
