Hollabrunner Reitzentrum under water: dramatic evacuation of 22 horses!
In August 2024, the rice center of Martina Wenzl in Hollabrunn was hit twice by devastating floods, which is described as an unprecedented disaster. Pads, stables and the riding hall were under water in Anton Ehrenfried-Straße, while 22 out of a total of 37 horses had to be saved in a panic-like evacuation. The helpers, including numerous volunteers and the fire brigade, were essential to bring the animals to safety, since the nervous horses could be seriously injured in such a stress situation as meinzirk.at reported.
The situation escalated again when the thunderstorms used the horses to return to their stables. Wenzl and her team immediately tried to build sandbags, but the damage had already happened. Despite the immediate cleanup, supported by the municipality, the financial consequences are enormous. "The paddocks have to be completely overwritten, and the damage to the fences and the electric fence are devastating," explains Wenzl. The restoration of the riding places and other areas alone is estimated on a six -figure amount, which acidified the existence of its riding system, such as Noen.at reported.
urgent reconstruction necessary
The regular training for riders and the daily movement of the horses, especially for the tournament horses, which cannot currently take place, make the situation even more precarious. Wenzl sincerely hopes for financial help from outside to restore its riding facility and at the same time secure the jobs and the supply of the numerous affected horses. "I am too young to give up. Without quick support, it will be extremely difficult to maintain our business," says her concerned assessment of the continued challenges that the flood events have brought with it.
