Flood protection in Puch and Kleedorf: Three new pools protect against floods
In recent years, the region around Puch and Kleedorf was often affected by heavy rain, which led to floods in many households. The emotional and financial challenges associated with it were enormous. In order to counteract these circumstances, significant measures in flood protection were taken. Since the ceremonial opening, three new retention basins have been ready to increase the safety of residents.
The opening was carried out by the head of the governor Stephan Pernkopf and Mayor Alfred Babinsky together with Thomas Rögner from the Waterbau Department of the State of Lower Austria. Pernkopf emphasized the importance of such projects as part of the hydraulic engineering investments that are completed annually in Lower Austria. "Every euro invested in flood protection prevents damage from two times," he said. This shows how high the importance of preventive measures in state politics.
variety of the pools ensures security
The three pools built in Kleedorf offer a total amphibious volume of around 34,000 cubic meters. One of the pools is an expansion of an existing biotope, while the other two were created. This variety in the design is crucial because it ensures different protective mechanisms: the expanded biotope dampens the tidal wave that arises in heavy rain and thus protects the settlement areas. In contrast, the other two basins come into play in long -lasting rains by saving the water in a targeted manner and thus reducing the drainage.
The retention basins were able to demonstrate their efficiency this year. In the heavy rains in August and September, they made a decisive contribution to being kept in the region. Mayor Babinsky was relieved and emphasized how important such preventive measures are that not only reduce financial but also emotional stress for residents.
Sustainable advantages for the environment
Another positive aspect of the new pools is the ecological upgrading of the area. These retention systems not only expand flood protection, but also create a valuable habitat for numerous animal and plant species. The nature -related design and integration of the biotope promote biodiversity in the region, which can be considered significant progress in environmental policy.
The project is divided into two construction phases. The first section, which includes the pools in Kleedorf and Puch, was recently completed. The second section will provide the construction of another pool in Breitenwaida. The planning and execution fell into the competence of the Hydroingener office in Krems, which specializes in such projects.
Financial support for sustainable development
The implementation of this important project would not have been possible without the extensive financial support of the federal and state governments. The total costs amount to around 1.75 million euros, the federal government with 49.6%, the state of Lower Austria with 39.6% and the municipality of Hollabrunn with 10.8% are involved in financing, which again illustrates the collective effort to maintain public security.
Overall, the new retention basins are a positive example of a successful flood protection project that shows how well preventive measures can work. The clear connection between protection and nature conservation is not only an investment in the infrastructure, but also in the quality of life of the residents and the biodiversity of the region.
