Flood aid in Lower Austria: Fast immediate aid of 75 million euros!

Significant steps to finance the flood disaster in Lower Austria were announced today. The federal government provides 300 million euros in the disaster fund to support the affected regions. The governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner announced that immediate aids of 75 million euros were decided by the state government, with 45 million from federal funds and 30 million directly from the country, such as the small newspaper reported. These auxiliary payments are intended for the rapid support of the affected communities and families, since the damage to the flood cannot yet be completely estimated.

While the damage commissions in the communities determine the damage, Mikl-Leitner emphasizes the excellent cooperation between the emergency services. "The damage is overwhelming, but we are determined to cope with this challenge together," she emphasized. According to NÖN , the cleaning up are only the beginning, and it will take months until everything is in order again. In order to offer maximum support, part of the compensation is covered by the disaster fund, whereby up to 50 percent of the amount of damage can be reimbursed in hardship cases.

The governor praised the emergency services who have already made over 33,600 missions. With a total of 1,300 firefighters from other federal states, the helpers show that solidarity is essential in times of crisis. In addition to the immediate aid, a faster expansion of flood protection is tackled in order to be able to better counter future disasters, as Pernkopf emphasized. "The cooperation of all parties is crucial, because only together we find solutions that benefit the population," said SPÖ chairman Sven Hergovich.
