Track in Hausmening: Drivers get stuck at the level crossing

A happy coincidence was in Hausmening on Friday morning. A driver whose car came to a standstill around 5 a.m. at a level crossing was very lucky. The reason why his vehicle stayed there is still unclear. The train that rolled from the direction of Waidhofen on the Ybbs could be brought to a stop by an emergency braking.

The driver's vehicle got stuck in the gravel bed of the level crossing and was no longer possible for him. Despite strong snow drifts, which made the view and the driving conditions difficult, the train driver managed to react in time and to bring the train to a support a few meters before the car.

In order to ensure the safety of the emergency services during the salvage measure, the operations manager of the ÖBB decided to switch off the affected section of the route. The risk of a power overlay was reduced in these areas by the highly exciting overhead lines (15,000 volts).

The fire brigade, especially the Ulmerfeld-Hausmening volunteer fire brigade, was quickly at the scene and immediately began evacuation of the train's passengers. These were safely led out of the train and brought to the next ÖBB station with a fire bus. The vehicle driver was handed over to the emergency services for the medical examination, but could also be ensured after the incident. The car finally had to be recovered with a fire brigade crane.

Fortunately, there were no injuries to complain about this incident, and the railway line was released for traffic again after half an hour. An incident that certainly tasted nerves for everyone involved, but ended up in a good end.
