With enthusiasm into the new year: successful youth work in Amstetten!

An impressive year for the street work programs in Amstetten! In 2023, over 4,600 contacts with young people between the ages of 12 and 23 were registered. The open company recorded the greatest influx with around 1,100 contacts, followed by street work operations and youth clubs in Mauer and Hausmening, each attracting around 700 young people. 55 % of the offers were used by male adolescents, with the age group from 14 to 15 years the strongest representation. Mayor Christian Haberhauer praises the exemplary work of "JLW - Youth and Lifeline", which has made a valuable contribution to promoting youth since it was founded in 2008, as well as the NÖN reported .

diverse offers for young people

A highlight on offer was projects for health promotion, including cooking workshops with healthy, regional products and sporting activities. These initiatives were honored with the highest Austrian award seal in gold for "health -competent open youth work". Another focus was on the political education of the young people, and subsequently they were given the opportunity to take part in a "democracy quiz" and realistic rehearsal in the youth club. Elisabeth Asanger, City Councilor for Leisure, Youth and Generations, emphasizes the importance of youth work and its preventive effect, which is often difficult to measure, as reported by the Website of the city of Amstetten .

The youth clubs in Hausmening and Wall are open on three days of the week and offer a protected space for young people to develop their strengths and make valuable social contacts. With offers such as tree climbing, chill & fun areas and the popular Streetwork Cup, a wide range of activities is offered that not only convey fun for young people, but also important life skills. The positive response shows that such initiatives are urgently needed.
