Fritz Bachner's magical photos from Supermond over Mostviertel
Fritz Bachner, a talented photographer from the Mostviertel, recently realized a remarkable dream. In one day that was optimal in terms of weather, he managed to capture the so -called Supermond or Bibermond in breathtaking pictures. After many unsuccessful attempts, which were thwarted by unfavorable weather, he managed to take incredible recordings this time.
A decisive factor for success was the exact planning. Bachner had organized everything down to the smallest detail with Renate Wachauer, who acted in the role of Nikolaus as "My Fair Lady". Their location on the horizon was calculated precisely in advance, so that the full moon under the ideal conditions over the scenery.
perfect conditions for photography
"However, the full moon was 99 percent decreasing and the visible size compared to Renate Wachauer was 8.6 meters," explains Bachner. The distance between the camera and the model was exactly 897 meters. He had planned the recording with a telephoto lens of 150-600mm, using a focal length of 600mm. The exposure time was 1/50 seconds, and Renate was instructed to move at a controlled pace to enable the perfect recording. The tight time window for the recording was particularly interesting: only five minutes were available in which the costume had to be changed.
The recordings took place on the Sonntagberg at the Doublet fire brigade. Bachner emphasizes that this position is unique for such photographs. "I've tried to take pictures here for years, but the weather was always unfavorable. This full moon has made me more than sufficiently compensated for it," says the photographer. The next occasions to photograph a full moon from this location are on 13.01.2025 and 04.12.2025, provided that the weather conditions are accordingly.
The fascination that the full moon takes to photographers can be discussed for hours. Bachner's works that were created on this special day impressively show how natural phenomena and human creativity can harmonize. The combination of careful planning, technical knowledge and the right moment leads to works of art that go far beyond everyday life. The award and recognition that he has already received for his work reflects only part of the talent that he brings into photography.
For many, a look at the moon is something magical, and the opportunity to capture it in such an artistic way is a real gift. The joy and dedication that Bachner puts into his work is clearly noticeable, and it remains to be hoped that he can continue to use such opportunities in the future to enchant us with his pictures.
