New PSCE President: Drobics relies on safe communication in Europe!
Wien, Österreich - On May 28, 2025, Dr. Mario Drobics, head of the Competence Unit "Cooperative Digital Technologies" at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, elected as the new President of the Public Safety Communication Europe Forum (PSCE). His choice follows David Lund's term. The PSCE is a platform that drives the development of secure and interoperable communication systems for authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS). Drobics emphasizes how important the dialogue between emergency organizations, industry and research is to develop future -proof solutions.
The PSCE is largely involved in the EU initiative for Critical Communication Systems (Euccs), which aims to build safe communication infrastructures for crisis management in Europe. This initiative is anchored in the work program of EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner and was highlighted by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as strategically significant.
strengthening European crisis reaction ability
In May 2023, the European Commission emphasized the importance of the Eucc. This initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of the public communication infrastructure and to significantly improve the crisis reaction capabilities in Europe. By 2030, a safe, interoperable communication network is to be established for public security in the EU, which is based on advanced mobile, mission-critical standards.
The development of the Eucc has already had a long history. Started with the Broadmap project (2016-2017), which carried out a first need study, the Broadway project (2018-2022) followed, which focused on pre-commercial procurements. The initiative is currently being further developed by the Broadeu.net program (2022-2026), which is financed by the Internal Security Fund (ISF) of the DG Home and works with representatives from 15 member states and Schengen countries.
research and improvement in disaster management
In addition, the EU-financed project Core is a valuable addition. This project examines various disaster scenarios, such as the bomb attack in the Manchester Arena (2017) and the major fire in Jerusalem (2021), to identify gaps in disaster-related coordination and communication between authorities. Professor Paolo Capuano from the University of Salerno emphasizes the need to learn from past experiences, especially from reactions that have not brought the expected success.
The social aspect is also considered in the context of these surveys, since certain groups are particularly susceptible in crisis situations. The project promotes the development of practical instruments for political decision -makers and first aiders in order to strengthen the resilience of society and to counteract misinformation, especially through social media.dr. Drobics plans to network PSCE more closely with other EU initiatives, especially in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and European data spaces. The overarching goal of convicting research results in practical solutions for the public sector and industry and ensuring that Europe is better prepared for future challenges.
The PSCE, which was founded in 2008, has developed into an independent forum that promotes the exchange of ideas and best practice and develops road maps to improve communication structures in the field of public security. These developments are crucial for the creation of a resilient and well -networked Europe, which can react efficiently in crisis situations.
