Netanyahu confirmed: Hamas strategist Mohammed al-Sinwar is dead!
Khan Yunis, Gazastreifen, Palästinensische Autonomiebehörde - On May 28, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced during a meeting of the Israeli parliament that Mohammed al-Sinwar was killed by the Israeli army. Netanyahu said: "We eliminated Mohammed Sinwar", making the end of another chapter in the discourse on the militant leadership of Hamas. After the death of his brother Yahya Al-Sinwar, who was killed in October 2023, Mohammed al-Sinwar took over the leadership of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Mohammed Ibrahim Hassan al-Sinwar, born on September 16, 1975, was the leader of the IZZ al-Din al-Qassam brigades and played a crucial role in the organization military activities. The circumstances of the killing of Mohammed al-Sinwar are in direct connection with an ongoing conflict, which was heated by the Hamas atrocities on October 7, 2023. Around 1,200 people were killed in these attacks and about 250 dragged into the Gaza strip.
an ascent to military leadership
Mohammed al-Sinwar was born in a refugee camp in Khan Yunis and joined Hamas' military movement in 1991. Because of his activities, he was arrested several times by Israel and spent years in prisons of the Palestinian Authority. In 2005 he took over the post of the Hamas Brigade commander in Khan Yunis and was involved in the kidnapping of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2006
After the death of Mohammed Deif in July 2024, he took control of the armed arm of the Hamas armed arm. According to reports, Al-Sinwar was one of the masterminds of the massive attack on Israel in October 2023, which was perceived by the Israeli population as a pogrom and resulted in deep, traumatic memories of the Jewish persecution during the Holocaust. This led to a massive escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, which is still being written in the lines of history.
The war in the Gaza Strip
Since the attacks by Hamas, the situation in the Gaza Strip has deteriorated dramatically. By May 2024 there were around 36,000 deaths on the Palestinian side and over 80,000 wounded, many of them civilians. The war has also led to the expulsion of around 1.7 million people, and large parts of the Gaza Strip are now uninhabitable. The humanitarian situation deteriorated considerably, while Israel continued to do so militarily against Hamas.
The efforts to de -escalate the conflict are strongly supported by the international community. The United States, the EU and Arab countries are trying to achieve humanitarian improvements and to bring about a peaceful solution to the conflict. But the deep ethnonial and territorial tensions that originate in the late 19th century seem to prevent a permanent solution.
The death of Mohammed al-Sinwar marks another turning point in the continued conflict between Israel and Hamas and could have far-reaching effects on the military strategies of both sides.
