NEOS starts exploratory talks: Return plans to form educational reform!

Christoph Return, the state spokesman for Neos Vienna, announced today in a press conference that the party has nominated a negotiation team for the upcoming exploratory talks. Return will manage the talks personally and is committed to a new edition of the red-pink "progress coalition" to reign again in the city. For the NEOS, the focus is primarily on improving the situation for children and adolescents. Support receives return from Bettina Emmerling, who is proposed as the successor to the Vice Mayor, as well as Selma Arapovic, who acts as club chief at Neos Vienna.

A central concern of the NEOS Returning is to focus on the "upswing of the economy" and to achieve a "pink -occupied education department". These ambitious goals come against the background of the recent Vienna City Council election, in which the SPÖ became clear election winner and is the strongest party in all 23 districts, with over 30 percent of the vote. Despite this dominant position, the SPÖ was able to record voting losses in 15 districts, while the FPÖ could grow in all districts.

election results and their importance

The choice brought a result of a total of +2.5 percentage points for the NEOS, which indicates voices in all 23 districts. The NEOS cut off particularly strongly in the Vienna inner city, where they received 16.6 percent of the vote and were able to win 4.7 percentage points. The weakest result for the NEOS was determined in Vienna-Simmering, where they came to 5.5 percent (+1.3 percentage points).

  • results in detail:
  • SPÖ: strongest party in all 23 districts with over 30 percent, but in 15 districts losses.
  • fpö: could win voices everywhere, especially in Vienna-Simmering with 33.6 percent (+18.8 percentage points).
  • Greens: growth in four districts, the highest voice district: new Vienna building with 27.6 percent.
  • neos: +2.5 percentage points, the strongest district: Interior of Vienna with 16.6 percent.
  • ÖVP: Record loss of -10.7 percentage points, loss of votes in all districts.

The ÖVP, which only came in a district of over 20 percent, has significantly lost with a decline between 7.5 and 13.6 percentage points in several districts. These election results will be decisive for the upcoming exploratory talks and the political landscape in Vienna, since the Neos want to try to consolidate their position and act as a stable force in the Vienna city government.

The challenge for return and his fellow campaigners now is to form a sustainable coalition that meets the demands of voters and at the same time addresses the economic and social needs of the Viennese population. The next steps will be crucial for the future policy of the city.
