Motorcycle raser stopped on A2: 168 km/h instead of allowed 100!
On Sunday, April 28, 2025, a 51-year-old motorcyclist from Vienna on the Südautobahn (A2) caused excitement. Around 2:30 p.m., officials from the motorway police carried out a routine check using a laser speed measurements in the area of the Knoten Villach. It turned out that the driver was traveling at a speed of 168 km/h, while the permissible top speed on this section was at 100 km/h.
The police measure a residual speed of 62 km/h after the measurement tolerance has been deducted. The vehicle control followed on the foot and the driver was stopped immediately. As a result of the speed crossing, the man's driving license was withdrawn on site and the onward journey was prohibited. It is also displayed, which is not surprising in view of the high speed.
Technical details of the speed measurement
The police speed measurement is often based on modern technology. According to the information from Bussgeldkatalog.org, the laser speed measurement is made by sending light impulses that are reflected by the vehicle. Based on the time that is needed to send and receive the impulses, the speed of the vehicle can be precisely determined. Mobile laser measuring devices, as used in the control, usually do not take a speed camera photo, which is why the police have to intervene directly to accept the personal details.
The required number of light pulses for an exact speed measurement is between 40 and 70. Strong reflections, for example from license plates, can influence the results. Technical errors or improper operation can lead to an objection to the notice of fine if this is inserted.
Legal consequences in the case of speed overrun
The legal consequences of speeding speeds are serious. ADAC explains that fast drivers usually have to expect fines, points and, if necessary, driving bans. For exceeding 51 to 60 km/h, fines of up to 480 euros are possible, in addition the driver must expect a one -month driving ban.
The hierarchy of fines and points outside of closed towns looks as follows:
Points Th> | ||
---|---|---|
51 - 60 km/h | 480 € | 2 months driving ban |
61 - 70 km/h | 600 € | 2 months driving ban |
over 70 km/h | 700 € | 3 months driving ban |
There are bicycle speed restrictions on the streets and highways, but also areas without specific limits, where a guide speed of 130 km/h is recommended. Exceeding this can lead to the co -liability in the event of an accident.
The official report on the situation of the Vienna motorcyclist once again shows that the police are consistently involved in routine controls and that speed violations are not tolerated.
