Milka surprises with a new 190g chocolate bar-the varieties in the check!

Krone AT, Österreich - On May 29, 2025, Mondelēz announced internationally that a new Milka chocolate size will be launched. The innovative table has a weight of 190 grams and fills a previously unoccupied gap between the classic small and large panel. Five different varieties are offered: alpine milk, noisette, zarherb, white and another variety that has not yet been named. Delivery has already started this week, which means that consumers can look forward to a new shopping experience.

The introduction of this new size takes place during a critical time for the company after the content of the Milka tablets was reduced at the beginning of the year. The small and large boards now weigh only 90 or 80 grams instead of 100 grams, which was criticized by consumer protectors as "mogue pack". Mondelēz justified this measure with the increase in cocoa prices and the high costs for energy, packaging and transport.

market developments and trends

The chocolate industry faces remarkable growth. The global chocolate market will be estimated at around $ 125 billion in 2024 and forecast growth of over 3.3% CAGR from 2025 to 2034. The drivers of this growth include the increasing population, rising income in developing countries and the growing interest in premium specialties. Regional priorities are primarily North America and the Asian-Pacific space.

Another phenomenon that influences the chocolate industry is the trend towards healthier options. Consumers are increasingly looking for products with a higher cocoa content and lower sugar content. This combined with growing awareness of health issues such as obesity and diabetes leads to an increasing demand for premium and crafted chocolates.

leading actors of the market

In the European market, Germany dominates, which has an estimated sales of $ 23.6 billion for 2024, with a CAGR of 3.4%. The top companies in the chocolate industry are Mars, Mondelez and the Ferrero Group. In 2023, the sales of the leading five companies were recorded as follows:

company sales (in USD)
Mars Wrigley 22 billion
Mondelez 14.4 billion
ferrero group 13.8 billion
Hershey Co 10.3 billion
nestle 8.45 billion

While some companies, such as Knight and Lindt, retain their packaging sizes, they have increased prices in recent years. In this dynamic market environment, it remains exciting how the strategies of the various providers will develop.
