Rental price stop decided: but millions remain unprotected!
Dolomitenstadt, Österreich - The National Council decided on the initiative of the new triple coalition to control a comprehensive rental price stop to control the housing costs in Austria. This immediate measure is intended to freeze rents for old building, community and cooperative apartments for the current year. Despite this regulation, 24 percent of the households living in the rent for rent are still unprotected because they are exposed to higher rental price increases in the free market. "Tenant: Inside the unregulated, private rental market remain unprotected," says Leonard Jüngling from the momentum institute, who calls for an "effective rental price brake" that includes all segments of the rental apartments.
The housing costs in Austria have risen dramatically in recent years and are fourth in a European comparison at the highest rental price increases. According to the European statistical authority, rents in Austria have had an increase of 70.3 percent since 2010, which is more than three times as much as the average of the euro zone with 23.5 percent. The increase in private rents that have increased by impressive 80 percent since 2010 is particularly dramatic. The general consumer prices have only increased by 48 percent, while real estate prices have increased by 108 percent, which increases the financial burden on tenants: on average 28 to 29 percent of their income for housing costs, while owners pay significantly less.
