Knife attack on Reumannplatz: Young people seriously injured 33-year-old!
At the Reumannplatz in Vienna favorites, the situation remains tense. weapon ban zone and safety measures
The introduction of the weapon ban zone on Reumannplatz is due to the high numbers of knife attacks, which are often committed by young perpetrators. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) describes this measure as a “first step” to combat youth crime and plans to expand the prohibition of weapons nationwide. He receives support from Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ), who also advocates reducing drugs. The prohibition of weapons is initially valid for three months and can be extended if necessary. In this zone, wearing weapons and dangerous objects is prohibited, with some exceptions for justified people. Police campaigns for searching for people and their possessions to weapons are also possible in the event of urgent suspicion, so Puls24 .
The decision on the prohibition of weapons was motivated by various serious incidents. Most recently, a man was injured in a fight, including a 20-year-old who was attacked after visiting the Interior Minister, and a basic military servant who wanted to intervene when women were molested, is one of the victims. The debate about the increasing youth crime was also heated up by an abuse case in favorites.
crime development
The police crime statistics (PKS) proves that the registered youth crime has increased in recent years. The PKS serves as the basis for preventive and repressive measures to combat crime. Important influencing factors are the display behavior of the population and the mandatory legal changes in criminal law.
The effectiveness of weapon ban zones in terms of security, however, is viewed critically. Expert Hannah Reiter expressed that such prohibition zones could possibly lead to displacement effects in which criminal acts only shift to other areas. In the past, similar zones have already been set up in Vienna and Innsbruck to improve security in the respective districts.
In view of the current incidents at Reumannplatz, the call for an increased police presence is loud. FPÖ boss Dominik Nepp even called for the drawing up of a police container to defuse the situation on site and ensure more security. The district head Marcus Franz (SPÖ), on the other hand, criticized that he was not informed about the introduction of the weapon ban zone, and emphasized the need for an increased police presence.Details | |
