Massaker in Syria: Civilian population suffers from brutal attacks
Latakia, Syrien - Vienna/Damascus, 08.03.2025 (Cape) - In the Syrian coastal regions of Latakia and Tartus, the situation for the Alawite civilian population is described as catastrophic. According to current reports, at least 865 civilians have already died, including many women, children and old people. The actual number could even be far higher, since looting and thefts heat up despair on site. These atrocities seem to be committed above all by foreign jihadists, such as kathpress reported.
The Syrian church leaders, including Patriarch Johannes X. of the Greek Orthodox Church and Patriarch Aphrem II of the Syrian Orthodox Church, have condemned the mass murders in an urgent explanation. They demanded an immediate end of violence and warned that the suffering of the Syrian people must finally stop. Manuel Baghdi, Middle East consultant by Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, confirmed the high number of victims and warned of growing fear among the religious minorities who fear that they are the next. So far, two Armenian Christians have already been murdered, which has further increased concern, such as Plus.ac.at documented.
